Job Title: Navy Technical Editor

Job Summary:

Are you a technical editor looking to expand into the government contracting sector? Are you proficient in document formatting and proofreading? We want to talk to you!

The purpose of this position is to provide writing, editing, and analytical services for the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD). This candidate will develop, revise, and proofread a variety of technical documents.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting in revising existing and developing new command level directives, instructions, and policies, including analysis of command operations and procedures; data gathering; consultations with program managers; and the formulation and review of proposed policies in the form of formal directives
  • Conducting research for the development and drafting of policy documents and technical forms
  • Managing large documents to include section/chapter breaks, automatic table of contents, hyperlinks, import/export features, and advanced table development
  • Analyzing command operations and procedures, data gathering, consultations with program managers, and formulating and reviewing proposed policies in the form of formal directives
  • Conducting research by utilizing Department of the Navy, Department of Defense, federal, and state websites.
  • Assisting with the development of Command forms to include layout and design, captions and data fields, electronic signatures, etc.
  • Providing general administrative support as required to sustain business operations, including meeting participation, development and tracking of project schedules, development of PowerPoint presentations or metrics tracking

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, communications, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • At least 5 years of experience in Technical Writing or Editing
  • Strong analytical abilities and advanced writing capabilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word formatting


  • Knowledge of Adobe Professional and Adobe LiveCycle Designer for the development of command forms to include layout and design, captions and data fields, electronic signatures
  • Secret clearance

Work Setting and Environment:

  • Monday - Friday, normal business hours
  • Work is to be performed at remotely until further notice
  • On-site location is Navy Yard in Philadelphia, PA
  • On-site federal contractors, in federal buildings or on federal lands must comply with CDC guidelines with respect to wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and other public health measures
