Job Title: Senior Graphic Designer

Job Summary:

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) produces annual reports to notify Congress, the rest of the federal government, and the public about its mission, goals, objectives, and accomplishments. FedWriters has a contract with USPTO to edit, proofread, and produce reporting deliverables for the USPTO Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO). FedWriters requires a Senior Graphic Designer who will conceptualize, design, lay out, proofread, and collaborate with USPTO and FedWriters staff to produce deliverables.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conceptualize, design, lay out, proofread, and collaborate with USPTO and FedWriters staff to produce deliverables.
  • Create charts and tables.
  • Recreate graphs and charts and ensure they conform with a format specified by USPTO.
  • Resize images in resolutions acceptable for electronic posting and print.
  • May be required to create cover designs for deliverables and reports.
  • Perform work in accordance with the USPTO style guide and according to USPTO specifications.
  • Provide draft document layouts, designs, and color palettes.
  • May be asked to support FedWriters corporate projects, such as proposals.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Expert at Adobe InDesign, with at least 5 years of experience using the software to create PDFs that are ready for publication.
  • Experience communicating with subject matter experts to receive changes to a PDF and implement them.
  • At least 1 years' experience designing and creating PDFs, reports, and deliverables for the federal government.
  • Experience creating a table of contents, inserting bookmarks and sub-bookmarks, and finalizing a document/PDF for publication.
  • Experience creating both online and print versions of PDFs/documents.
  • Experience implementing 508 compliance on documents a plus, but not required.
  • Experience editing and proofreading a plus but not required.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to meet hard deadlines.
  • Tenacity, determination, politeness, and good communication and people skills.

Work Setting and Environment:

  • Temporary position, but will be full-time during the duration of the project (an estimated 4 months)
  • Remote
  • Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm Eastern Time, with the possibility of having to work more than 40 hours per week to arrive at a completed draft
