Job Title: Speech Writer

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skillful speech writer to craft speeches and presentations for our client, 1st Cavalry Division. The speeches you will prepare will tell the 1st Cav story and take public perception to the next level. The speech writer will create speeches for a variety of occasions, audiences, and speakers.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Meeting with speakers and the Public Affairs team to discuss upcoming needs/specifics of assigned speeches; may include structure, points of emphasis, appropriate humor, content, and overall style
  • Conducting research to find interesting facts and statistics that can be used in the presentation
    • May include Internet searches, document reviews, etc.
  • Submitting speech outlines and subsequent drafts for approval
  • Implementing client feedback and completing any edits as soon as possible
  • Meeting all deadlines
  • Ensuring speeches have appropriate timing, clear messaging, and a conversational tone
  • Working with speakers on incorporating visual aids into presentations, and working with other members of the Public Affairs/Marketing team to create visual aids
  • Rehearsing with speakers if required and providing them with tips and advice

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A favorable National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) investigation OR a valid Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in English or 2 years of experience working in speech writing or comparable role
  • The ability to remain resilient and complete multiple revisions if needed
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Possess an awareness of language subtleties and be able to craft speeches with the audience in mind
  • Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an ability to grasp and communicate technical concepts
  • Consistent track record of developing and implementing successful media campaigns
  • Highly organized with a proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and a highly dynamic environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Work Setting and Environment:

  • Monday - Friday, normal business hours
  • Work is to be performed at 1st Cavalry Division Headquarters, Building 28000, Battalion Ave., Fort Hood, Texas
  • On-site federal contractors, in federal buildings or on federal lands must comply with CDC guidelines with respect to wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and other public health measures
