Job Title: Interview Transcriptionist

Job Summary:

Do you have experience transcribing audio files? Are you a fast and accurate typist? We're looking for a transcriptionist to join our team.

The purpose of this position is to provide transcription services to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Refugee, Asylum, and International Operations (RAIO) Directorate, Asylum Division Headquarters (HQASM). While the audio recordings may contain foreign spoken languages, the transcriptionist shall be responsible for transcribing the spoken English portions only.

The ideal candidate will have experience transcribing audio/video (such as interviews) and will have prior experience with USCIS or bank/court matters. If you have experience transcribing audio files and are a fast and accurate typist, we'd love to have you on our team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Transcribing English language portions of interviews from audio recorded material, up to 3 hours in length and an average of 100 pages, verbatim
  • Transcribing files via a secure network, provided through a virtual desktop solution; no files may be transferred outside of the network and no 3rd party software may be used
  • Ensuring thorough spell check and editing of each transcription
  • Ensuring transcribed data matches the official transcript, with page and line numbers in proper sequence, page by page, and line by line
  • Annotating time stamps or time interval markers
  • Following data storage policies and procedures

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • English fluency
  • Ability to pass a USCIS background check and obtain a DHS Personal Identification Verification (PIV)
  • A minimum of 1 -3 years of full time experience or 2 - 5 years of part time experience providing transcription services containing legal terminology, while adhering to strict confidentiality requirements
  • Proficiency in grammar
  • Experience with adhering to strict deadlines
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and legal citation
  • Reliable internet connection

Desired:

  • Prior experience with USCIS

Work Setting and Environment:

  • Work is to be performed remotely
  • Monday - Friday, flexible work hours
  • On-site federal contractors, in federal buildings or on federal lands must comply with CDC guidelines with respect to wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and other public health measures
